Coca-Cola Beat Nation

We’re all acutely aware of the adage of the industry triangle, Good, Fast & Inexpensive: of which one may only pick two. At Cake we advocate for production as per our ‘usual’ route to create great quality brand advertising because the time, finesse and attention that one can pay to a properly crafted brand campaign will always exceed what’s possible in a more ‘fast draw’ execution.

When the planets align though, the creation of ’new style’ brand content can achieve the full triangle. Recently we partnered with FCB Joburg and Coca-Cola to produce the full visual explanation and education around the Beat Nation campaign for Africa.

 Taming the Unicorn

We were approached by the awesome team at FCB to help find the elusive unicorn of advertising; a quick, creative and production savvy solution to creating a large quantity of high quality content in a short space of time for the Beat Nation launch. In a few short weeks we created over 100 unique bodies for the campaign where we showcase the full idea behind The Beat Can range.

Aimed specifically at the youth market across various African regions the campaign still needed to be inclusive for all Coca-Cola drinkers. Nadezna’s creative solution was to find a space that would appeal to the larger Coke audience yet have a familiarity to self-created online content, as the whole idea is to inspire people to create their own music videos from pairing the cans.

With our impressive matrix in hand, we shot over 3 days in a very controlled multi-camera setup to achieve the high volumes of footage needed to create all the different bodies, this paired with a non-traditional post flow with insanely skilled technicians and meticulous structure allowed us to harness the almost impossible and embrace the thoroughly awesome task of teaching a continent to beat-box.
